Position Summary: As a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting, you will facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and school staff. You will play a critical role in ensuring equal access to educational content and social interactions throughout the school day.
Responsibilities include:
Provide sign language interpreting services (e.g., ASL) in classroom and school-related settings
Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and staff
Support student access to instruction, activities, and social interactions
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards
Adapt interpreting style based on student needs and educational environment
Participate in team meetings and school-based collaboration as needed
Qualifications:
Minimum EIPA score of 3.5+ (required for school-based interpreters in PA)
State registration with the Pennsylvania Office for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (ODHH) OR eligibility to obtain
RID/NIC certification (preferred)
Experience interpreting in an educational setting (preferred)
Strong understanding of Deaf culture and communication modalities
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
